San Diego, CA -
Military families, Consumers, and financial professionals
seeking to learn more about personal finance could find plenty
of courses, but all were without college, until now. ICFE
discovered a three module course in personal finance for the
on-line learning environment which is available exclusively from
Park University, which was recently ranked by US News and World
Report as the 2nd largest online degree provider in the nation.
The Personal Financial Management course (F1 201M) was developed
specifically for service members, financial counselors who work
in the military or consumer environments and American consumers.
Upon successful completion, a student receives three ( 3 )
undergraduate credit hours toward a Park University degree, or
to be transferred to other accredited schools.
The F1 201M course is a practical, self-paced college course
covering the basics of money. In less than 60 days, students can
learn everything they need to stop living paycheck to paycheck
and take control of money. It also covers many key elements
rarely learned at home or school: They include, but are not
limited to,
The importance of regularly contributing to a savings plan or military thrift savings plan (TSP) and also learn ways to maximize those contributions.
How to create and implement a budget (a/k/a spending plan)
How and why to start an emergency savings fund
How to understand and improve your credit score
Getting out of debt and staying out
Fundamentals of investing for retirement
Insurance and tax basics
How the psychology of money affects you
Students are provided with free e-books, budgeting tools,
financial calculators, and worksheets for ongoing use. In
addition, students have access to financial counselors to answer
questions throughout the course.
The course is exceptionally flexible because it's online.
Students can enroll and start any time it fits their schedule
throughout the year. Best of all, for a vast majority of
consumers, including active duty service members, the course is
available at no cost by using their employer and/or military
education benefits. For example, active-duty personnel can apply
for the military's Tuition Assistance program that will pay for
100% of the tuition cost up-front, with no out-of-pocket
expenses for the service member.
As a financial counselor in the military community or one who
works with civilians, this course provides the kind of basic
financial insights that greatly benefit the lives of service
members and families you serve. It also serves as a great
refresher course for anyone in the financial counseling
profession.
In summary, this course:
Provides a strong financial foundation.
Qualifies for college credit.
Is covered by Tuition Assistance for military personnel (and possibly others).
Requires no additional fees for labs, books or other items.
Is discounted for military personnel and their dependents.
Can equip individuals and families to better their financial circumstances.
