Introduction

A free credit report annually from the three major credit reporting agencies (CRAs) is the most popular consumer benefit contained in the new Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA).  Free credit reports, one from each of the three major credit reporting agencies every year, are now available nationwide. Credit reports and how to get them free are the subjects of major news stories, on radio, TV and in newspapers nationwide, as the process for getting the free reports available nationwide unfolded and more and more people took advantage of then new and important consumer right.

There are now millions of consumers who need help from their financial planners and advisors, their credit and debt counselors, their banking and credit union representatives, their lawyers, their notaries and other professionals to help them understand what is in the credit report.  They also need to know if something is depressing their credit scores, resulting in more expensive borrowing.

There will be another half million consumers who have become identity theft victims.  Regular reviews of credit reports (one or two times per year, depending on level of credit activity)  is the latest weapon in combating America's fastest growing crimes - credit and identity theft.  One method is by early detection and better consumer awareness, as a result of regular credit report reviews.

The Need for the Certified Credit Report Reviewer  Service

The growth of the consumer credit industry has been explosive over the past fifteen years. Americans are still getting all charge-up with their plastic. Individual credit files continue to grow, sometimes into more than a dozen pages.  This is an area of concern to consumers, that many, attorneys, CPAs and financial planning professionals have overlooked.  Hardly any are providing a credit report review service. 

Consumers need to learn, and be reminded often, the steps to take for identity theft protection. This is an important new aspect of the credit report review service.  It is especially  for every consumer who may be concerned about their credit ratings, their FICO scores and becoming a victim of Identity Theft.  

More people are now becoming aware of the importance of looking at their credit files, especially because of the recent news stories about rapid increase in identity theft complaints.   Credit report reviewers will be providing a valuable service by helping to educate their clients and other consumers on the importance of maintain their good credit rating, their high credit scores  and guard against identity theft.  Certified Credit Report Reviewers

What is an ICFE Certified Credit Report Reviewer
 and what do they do?

ICFE Certified Credit Report Reviewers  (CCRRs), are comprised of financial services industries professionals, credit union people, others ranging from credit and debt counselors to financial planners, to CPAs and mortgage lenders.  They become ICFE Certified Credit Report Reviewers  after self-study training and passing a written examination overseen by the ICFE.  The self-study course is based on FACTA and also covers, the common issues related to credit and identity theft and victims.

ICFE Certified Credit Report Reviewers  will be answering a very important question which is:  
            "Is your credit report doing something for you or is it doing something to you?"

ICFE Certified Credit Report Reviewers  are also educators.  They help people learn how to get their credit files.  The ICFE Certified Credit Report Reviewer  meets with folks who have their credit reports in hand and conducts a review of them with the client, line by line.  This is done to both educate people and make them aware of each account listed on their reports.  If they can't identify one, there may be suspicious activity to watch.  It also helps the consumer understand what is in their credit report and how it might be affecting a credit score, and thereby how much they will pay for credit, if they can get it.   

ICFE Certified Credit Report Reviewers  are up-to-date on the latest methods to detect suspicious activity.  They are trained and equipped with the skills and techniques to assist the victim of credit and identity theft.  Important identity theft discovery techniques and prevention measures are implemented and explained to the consumer during the review process.  

Becoming an ICFE CCRR
 is a way to help others and, perhaps, earn extra income at the same time.   It  will also enable you to add a new dimension to your counseling and a useful benefit for existing clients.    

ICFE CCRR's  efforts on behalf of a client could uncover identity theft that could potentially cost a victim into the thousands of dollars or you may discover an inaccuracy that depresses a credit score.  

ICFE CCRRs  may choose full-time or part-time, or even once or twice a week. Some conveniently establish their own hours and work by appointment out of a home office or in a client's home.  Advertising, marketing and prospecting may be conducted and focused anywhere, because everyone can benefit from this very useful  service.

About the Credit Report Review Service:

As an ICFE Certified Credit Report Reviewer  you will teach clients how to obtain their credit reports from the three major CRAs.  When the client has his or her credit reports in hand,  you will review their credit reports, page-by-page, with the client present.  The average credit report review takes about an hour and fifteen minutes.

A husband and wife are considered separate clients because there are no joint credit reports.  

You will explain how they may make any changes and corrections and you may suggest what changes to make using the ICFE's Do-It-Yourself Credit File Correction Guide. 

After you have finished the interview you may want sell or provide the client a copy of the ICFE's Do-It-Yourself Credit File Correction Guide.  The ICFE Guide has sample letters for your clients to use as a guide in making any changes desired.  The ICFE's Guide is published in English and Spanish, so you may provide a bi-lingual service if you so desire. If you provide them with a complimentary copy of the ICFE Do-It-Yourself Credit File Correction Guide, it is a $10-15  retail value, your cost is $5 or below, subject to quantity.

Your clients will also receive an important list of things they should to do prevent against Identity Theft.  

The suggested fee is $35-$50 for about a one hour review service, including the ICFE Guide. If you spend more than one hour, but less than 90 minutes, the suggested fee is $50-$75 including the ICFE Guide.
